Work
My practice is centred around exploring feelings of stasis that occur in trying to position myself within my own history. This consists of researching and writing, which move into an ongoing series of experiments, with different practices and materials, that play with a need to contain and define oneself, and the inability to do so, that sharpens and dulls throughout our lives. My work is speculative and references design, while working within the technologies of craftwork, primarily textiles. I like to consider the historical and sociological precedent of my making in order to build a relationship with a history that traverses structures of time, space and language. By doing this, I am able to renegotiate my semiotic understanding of objects, practices and materials and play with the embalming of new meaning onto them.
